Info on advanced layout techniques?

I am going to be designing a lot of fairly advanced, workflow-based forms in
IP 2007. That means I'll be taking advantage of repeating tables/sections,
optional sections, conditional formatting, etc., throughout each form.

I'm running into layout issues and and don't want to spend hours and hours
tweaking each control multiple times. Is there a book or Web site where I can
learn advanced layout techniques? Issues include topics such as:

Keeping controls lined up vertically and horizontally when I have nested
sections and/or tables.

Keeping the width of the nested sections/tables inside the printable range.
(Things seem to expand to the right as I nest more and more items, sometimes
having to copy an existing item into a new container.)

Keeping the sizes of nested controls consistent (e.g., the columns of a
table in one section are the same width as, and line up with, the columns in
a similar table farther up that isn't nested to the same depth).

Learning any quick ways of repeating formatting from one place to another
(other than Format Painter, Apply to All XXX Controls, and creating template
parts).

Deciding what measurement(s) to use: %, px, pt, in, etc. What are the pros
and cons of each?

If I use %, will it adjust dynamically if the section or table size changes?
(The way tables do in Word.)

Also, is there an option somewhere that lets you set the default type of
measurement (like you can in Word) for for all forms you build, or are we
forced to use px unless we explicitly change it for each control or table? I
looked, but haven't been able to find one.

Thanks very much!
