Inputting Costs

New to MS Projects -
I am preparing a renovation plan and have come across a problem - I pay
"Resource A" a deposit prior to start. Work is done by Resource A, quality
checks are made and corrections dealt with by Resource A. I have input a
daily rate in Resource Sheet for this individual resource. I DO NOT want
monies paid to resource until quality check and corrections are
complete...How do I input info so that Resource A is paid deposit and only
paid again AFTER corrections.

Hi Treisa ,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

Well... Project doesn't pay anyone! The cost imputs are purely to allow a
budget to be calculated. The resource costs are not the salary but the cost
of using that resource to the project, which includes overheads like
training, holidays, sickness, etc.. It is up to the finance people to pay
the resource - you tell them when. You could create milestones to remind you
of when these payments are to be made.

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at
this web address: http://www.mvps.org/project/

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)

Adding to Mike's reply, the dates the costs accrue in a project budget and
so in MS Project are the dates the obligation to pay is incurred, not the
dates the payments are actually made. You may give someone a deposit but
that's really just transferring money from one account to another and not
spending it, exactly as if you had transferred some cash from your savings
account into your chequing account. You book Joe for a task and give him an
advance deposit. Unless it's a non-refundable deposit that money is
essentially being held in escrow by Joe and is not his to spend until he
actually does the work. If the project is cancelled before he does his
task, he has to give you the deposit back so until the task itself is
performed, in that sense it's still your money and has not yet been spent.

If I understand correctly, you pay resource A NOT by day rate, but fix sum on
approval of task completed.

So deposite is one activity or milestone, fix sum payable at completion.
Resource A is within one ACTIVITY, with fix sum payable "at end"
