Insert names, etc. into a standard engagement letter

I have a standard engagement letter that I want to
automatically insert the addressee's name, address, and
other data into the body of the letter. I used to use
WordPerfect and I was able to do this by inserting merge
fields into the letter. Then I had a separate document
where I entered the variable data. I would then merge the
two and the final letter would have the data inserted into
the right places. How is this done in Word?

Mail merge is less appropriate for this application in Word (even though in
Word 2002/2003 you can select specific, even single, recipients). A more
common approach would be to create Contacts in Outlook and use Insert |
Address to insert them. If you need data beyond the name and address,
however, a mail merge may be the way to go. See these articles:
