insert pictures/clip art

Whenever I try to insert a JPEG or even Clip art, nothing shows up. I get the
marks to move, resize and rotate, but nothing shows up in the actual
document. The oopject is there, I just can't see it. And I can actually email
the file to someone else and they can see the pictures, but I can't. I don't
get it and I have no clue of how to change this.
