Insert symbols or do spell check in tables

I am using Word 2002. I have table documents that I need
to insert a symbol or do spell check. When I attempt
either one of these my computer locks up. It doesn't
happen every time. Is there something I can do?

As far as I know, tables per se don't present a problem
with inserting symbols or spell check. I assume when you
say "I have table documents" you mean you have documents
with tables in them.

If your computer locks up, it's probably the document
that's the problem. Try copying and pasting the contents
of the document into a fresh, blank document, and see if
the same thing occurs.
