inserted EPS behavior changed

I have a logo in EPS format. I inserted it into a new document and it looked
just fine. Later I dragged it from the desktop and dropped it into a
different document and the size was smaller, the colors changed and it was
very jaggy. Now no matter how I try to insert or drag and drop the graphic
shows up bad. I tried it on Word 2000 at home and 2003 at work with the same
results.

Hi David,

If you're using Insert=>Picture=>From File then
the Word graphic converters should be kicking in.
If you're pasting use Edit=>Paste Special to see
what format graphic Word is selecting. It sounds
like it may be showing the EPS preview rather than
rendering the content, assuming you're using Postscript
level 2 and not 3 in your graphic.

Hmmm... I tried Inserting and Paste Special but it's the same result.
In the beginning I could Insert repeatedly. When I dragged and dropped the
EPS off my desktop into Word is when the trouble started. The designer who
made the EPS logo sent me a Word doc with the logo already inserted and it
does open up and look good. I am no longer able to Insert or Paste Special
any EPS files on my PC though. The designer sent me a different EPS file and
it looks bad too.

I right click the eps file on my desktop and copy it. When I use Paste
Special the options are: Package Object or files. I tried both. One shows up
as an icon and the other is the small sized, jaggy image.

http://www.janettebalogh.com/bb/good_eps.doc Doc sent to me by the
designer. Originally, I could do this too with Insert=> Picture=> From File.

http://www.janettebalogh.com/bb/bad_eps.doc My results now if I Insert=>
Picture=> From File (or Paste Special as 'files')

I tried Detect and Repair.

Thanks,
Dave

Hi David,

How did you get the EPS file onto your desktop? If you copied it to there
from the original Word document, Windows may have converted it to another
format during the copy process. For portability, you'd need a copy of the
original EPS file. You may be able to extract one from the original Word
document by saving it as an HTML file. This separates out all the objects
embedded in a document to their own separate files. I don't know what Word
would do with an EPS file in this case - save them back to EPS, or convert
them to some other format.

Note too that EPS files often contain embedded low-res images for display
purposes, but print a high-res version of the same image. So, what you see
is not necessarily what you get.

Cheers

The Designer sent the EPS file to me via email. I will ask about the
possibility of the low-res version being included or not.
When it prints it has smooth edges (not jagged like it is on screen) but the
colors are way off.
Thanks!
