Inserting a chart

I am not able to insert a chart in PowerPoint 2007 and the only frustrating
response I get back is "Some chart types cannot be combined with other chart
types. Select a different chart type." For which I have tried every different
chart type in 2007, but still get the same information response. Bottom line:
I can't use any charts
