Inserting a New Slide as the first slide.

Hi,

Powerpoint newbie.

I dont have any need as such, but just curious. If am on the first slide and
if I click on Insert -- New Slide , then the New slide is created as slide
number 2.

Is it possible to insert a slide in such a way that the New slide becomes
the first slide and the first slide becomes the second slide.

Thanks a lot,
Hari

You can always insert the slide as the second slide and go to Slide
Sorter view. Then drag the second slide to go before the first.

Hari,
In the pane on your left click just above the first miniature slide, a
horizontal line will appear, hit the button New slide and your done.
The same thing applies to the slide sorter view, there you will have a
vertical line though.

Thnx also for telling me that --Slides -- on the left is referred to as
Slide Sorter.

Thanks a lot,

Hi Luc,

Thnx for telling me of 2 different ways of doing the same thing.

A clarification.

a)You say that in the slide sorter view, I will get a vertical line. On the
other hand am getting a horizontal line and when I do insert slide it
inserts the new one at the first position. (In the left pane, I have 2 tabs
named - Outline and Slide --. I believe that when u said Slide sorter you
are referring to -- Slide --.)

b) Outline view - I believe when u said -- the first miniature slide -- you
were referring to outline view. In this Im getting a vertical line and not a
horizontal one. Also, I would say, that try however hard, I may am not able
to click just above the first miniature slide in the outline view. If I go
just above the first slide outline view then either the mouse cursor changes
to 4 arrows in perpendicular form and if i go slightly more to the right
then mouse cursor changes to normal and if i click then I switch over to
Slides view. Also, in the outline if I do click on the vertical line created
to the right of the first slide in the miniature view, then Insert New slide
causes new slide to be inserted as second one.

What I understand from above is that -- a horizontal line will appear --
nd -- you will have a vertical line though. -- is that these LINES are
like cursors in the word document where if we press enter then whatever is
below/right of the cursor moves down.

So inspite of my above understanding Im not able to get the vertical line
appear to the left of the first slide in the outline view. As according to
me only if the LINE comes to the left of the first slide in the outline view
and if we Press Insert new slide then everything else will shift down.

(Am experimenting with powerpoint and think that would find it more fun if I
could know about different ways of doing the same thing)

Thanks a lot,
Hari

Actually, those slides on the left aren't Slide Sorter view, but for some
purposes they work just as well. Look in the lower left corner of your
screen. You should see some icons (slightly different ones depending on
the version of PowerPoint you have). In 2003, there are 3 icons for
Normal View, Slide Sorter View, and Slide Show View. The one with four
small squares arranged in a box is for Slide Sorter View. Click on it,
and you will be taken to a screen full of miniature pictures of your
slides. This is a good screen for moving slides around and for doing
things to several slides at a time, such as setting slide transitions and
timing for all slides at once.

Hi David,

Thnx again for removing my misconception.
Have learned some decent terms/facts on powerpoint today (I have 2002).

I also note that in the slide sorter view itself I could move the cursor
before the first slide and if I do insert new slide then am able to do it in
one go. (There would be no need of dragging the slide as comparing to
Inserting new slide before switching to slide sorter view)

Thanks a lot,

Hi Hari,
on point a) in normal view on your left choose the slide tab and click just
above the first slide you will get a horizontal line.
point b) I personally do not use the outline view to add a slide but you can
as you already experienced. Just click next to the first letter of the text
and hit New slide or better still just hit enter.

As to the vertical line, I was referring to the slidesorter view, David
explained where you can find it. There, when you click just before your
first slide you will obtain a vertical line, then hit New slide.
Enjoy
Luc
