Inserting a Project

When I insert a project (using the insert pull down menu then project)
the tasks associated with it are not inserted. What setting do I need
to "check" to make sure the tasks are inserted with the project? I
have the same settings as a colleague and he has no problems. I have
unistalled and reinstalled project but that did not work.

Thanks for the help,

Chad

Chad,
The default is for a dynamic consolidation. That is controlled by the
check box in the lower right of the Insert Project Window. In a dynamic
consolidation the subprojects do not become part of the master, rather,
the master only contains pointers to each individual subproject.

You can have the actual subprojects inserted by unchecking the "link to
project" box mentioned above. However be advised that doing so will
create a static consolidation. That is, the new master will not be
dynamically linked to the subprojects in any way. It will in fact be a
snapshot of each subproject at the time the static master is created.

John,

If I leave the box checked the project is inserted correctly but I can
not delete it. If I unckeck the box only the summary comes in. When
we insert the project we always unckeck that box beause we do not want
it dynamicly linked. I have several projects that I use as templates
so I do not ahve to recreate them. Do you have any more suggestions?

Chad,
Why you do a dynamic consolidation what exactly do you mean when you say
you can't delete it? There was a bug with Project 2003 that affected the
ability to delete subprojects from a dynamic master. It was fixed by
update SP2.

This may seem like a dumb question but I gotta ask it. When you do a
static consolidation you said only the summary comes in. Did you try
expanding the summary (i.e. show all subtasks)?

John,

For instance if I inserted a project and then relized it was the wrong
one I can not delete it.

The plus sign does not apperar next to the summary, hence there are no
tasks under it.
