Inserting Slide with Diff Background

Help!
I have just started using PPT 2003. In the past, I could
paste a slide from a different presentation with a
different background and then click Apply to All. It
would then change the background of all of the slides to
the background of the newly pasted slide.

Now it seems that when I do that, PPT changes the slide I
am pasting in to match everything else automatically. I
have looked all over the help(less) menus and can't
figure out how to turn this off.

Can anyone help? Thanks in advance!
