Install MSOCACHE

Frank

Is it possible to install the Office 2003 installer files after-the-fact?

I did not choose to install the files while setting up the Office install
with the Office Resource Kit Custom Installation Wizard.

Of course, now some Office patches are requiring the CD for the programs to
work or the patch is not installing.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Hi Frank,

For MS Office 2003 there are some decision points on using the Local Install Source (LIS) \MSOCache. With 2003 if you used a Custom
Installation Wizard file (.MST) applied to an Office Admin Installation Point then the LIS option is not available to you, but the
Office 2003 Admin Intallation Point should still be available to users in lieu of the CD. If you used a compressed CD Image you can
use the LIS and you should be able to download the LISTool to be able to create or repair an LIS.
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/assistance/HA011402031033.aspx

For Office 2007 all users get the \MSOCache (no longer an optional feature) Local Installation Source install.

Frank

I installed Office 2003 with an MST file, but I used the Office CD and
eventually created a SysPrep image out of that.

If I try to use LisTool on a computer with the Office 2003 CD in the drive,
and choose to Enable, I get a message that reads The Local Installation
Source cannot be enabled if the user installed from an Administrative Source.
I'm not sure why that's the case since I've used the Office CD...

Hi Frank,

I'm not sure I'm clear on the steps you used to install Office (System Builder tools are provided separately through
http://microsoft.com/oem ). Did you follow the Compressed CD image procedure in the article linked from the prior page? If so,
that run, including using the updated Setup program should have installed the LIS unless you specifically overrode that.

Running the Office Setup (and subsequently the OSE.exe program) would have produced a different result than if you tried to install
Office using just MSI files.

All is did was run setup.exe (newer version) and point it to the CD drive
(with an Office 2003 CD slipstreamed with SP2) and the mst file. Here's my
DOS command line:

D:\setup.exe TRANSFORMS=E:\O2K3\O2K3a.MST /qb-
----------------------------------------------------------------
Once Office and the other programs were installed on the PC, I ran Sysprep.

In fact, I just ran through the CIW again as if I were creating a new
transforms file. In step #8, you have to click the checkbox to "Configure
Local Installation Source", put in your product key and click the checkbox
for the License Agreement.

This would lead me to believe that the LIS would be installed.
