Installation problem with Microsoft Home Publishing 2000

I have tried several times to install the program and when
finished, in trying to open it, I get the following error
message: "Following problem detected. GIF graphic filter
missing" It then suggests I reinstall which I have done
several times with the same error message resulting. Would
appreciate any help.

Thanks

Alan, how are the rates?

To resolve this issue, rename the Gifimp32.flt file:
Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.
In the Named field, type gifimp32.flt.
In the Look in box, click Local hard drives, and then click to select the
Include Subfolders check box.
Click Find Now.
Right-click the Gifimp32.flt file, and then click Rename.
Type gifimp32.old.
Press ENTER.
Close the Find: Files Named Gifimp32.old dialog box.
Reinstall the program.

I found a solution if you need it yet.

I first uninstalled all of my Office 2000, by going
to "Control Panel", then "Add /Remove Programs" . Office
uses a lot of shared files between applications, so out
they go (Office that is). After you uninstall, Right
click on "My Computer" and go to "Explore". Then go
to "C"; Program Files > Common Files > Microsoft Shared >
and then "Grphflt". This last folder is where the
picture filters reside, and this is where the corrupted
or missing files probably are, or should be. Even after
you uninstall Office, these files remain. I selected them
all in "Edit" and deleted them to my Recycling bin.
(Note: You can also see where these filter files are
by "Searching" on "*.flt".) My guess is that reinstalling
did not correct the files in "Grphflt", and probably did
not load them again if they were seen in the folder.
Deleting them, I guess, forces Office to load a "fresh"
set.

It sounds drastic, but after I reloaded Office 2000,
everything in Publisher worked just fine. This was my
last try before I went out and bought the upgrade, but it
worked. I hope this helps. Let me know if it does. It
worked for me...:)
