Installation Question

G

Gordon

I'm a new action pack subscriber. Installed Office 2007 enterprise with no
problems, but when I try to install Project Pro 2007 I get the following...
"Locate your earlier version of Microsoft Office"
"Setup can't find a version of Microsoft Office on your computer"

I saw where others had resolved that issue by using the 2003 cd, but I don't
have an earlier version.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Are you afforded the opportunity to browse to look for the executables such
as Excel.exe or MSPROJ.exe ? I think Project is searching for MSPROJ.exe for
the upgrades.

Thx Jim...It allows me to browse for a folder not a file....I attempted
several, but still no success.

Gordon,

I had this same problem. It is looking for an earlier version of project.
Luckily, I had a copy of MS project 2000. I put that in my drive, pointed to
the root and presto - installation works.

I'm experiencing exactly the same problem. Has anyone been able to resolve
it yet?

Thanks, AC

Hello Adam,

Have you tried using an earlier version of Project as was suggested by
Jim?

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

I'm in the same position as the others, with Office 2007 successfully
installed and I have the disk for the 2002 version of Project Pro. The
winproj.exe file in not found by the setup for proj 2007 pro. Even if I
install that version and point the setup directly to the folder that
winproj.exe is in, it still says there is nothing in that path that satisfies
the requirements. So, there must be some other way? Or do we need to get
our money back?

I have exactly the same problem. I have pointed to multiple folders for
Project 2002 Pro anf to Office 2003 Installation media. Still no luck. Any
other suggestions would be helpful.

Hi Chinojosa,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

I don't have a definitive answer, but you could try your current Office CD
or an earlier Office CD to see if that works. other than that, it's a phone
call to your supplier or to Microsoft Support. Good Luck :)

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at
this web address: http://project.mvps.org/faqs.htm

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)

Ok, this is what I did (and it works!)

I downloaded free MS project 2007 standard trial version from the Microsoft
website. After installation of it (again, the trail version - installation of
the trail version went ok) I inserted the CD of the MS Project 2007
Professional, the same it was asking for a version of MS Office while
starting setup. Well, this time it didn't ask for anything and went into a
regular setup mode. Now is working fine!! It went from standard to
professional version with no surprises.

Hope this helps!

Hi, I was going to try to use the method described by Chinojosa, but all I
could find to download for the trial version was an .img file. I googled to
find how to use that file and all I could find were non-free programs to
install it. Is there a way to do so within all the MS stuff?

Rick,

There is some discussion on the MSDN site about renaming *img files to
*.iso files. I have not tried so cannot say whether this will work in
your circumstance. See:
---------------------------------------
From:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...00-0127-4d88-9b5d-896b9b388313&DisplayLang=en

Download instructions

1. Click on the 4 ISO image downloads available on this page and save
to your hard drive in a temporary directory.
Note: 2.3 GB of disk space is required to download.2. Rename
downloaded .img files to .iso file extension and follow the ISO handling
instructions below.

Options for handling downloaded ISO Images.
Following 2 options are available for CD ISO handling.
1. Write the ISO files to blank CD-R (i.e. burn image). Most
recommended.2. Mount ISO files virtually as CD-ROM devices. For details
of the options listed above, see "What are ISO image files and how do I
use them?" topic available on this FAQ page:

I was in the same situation - new Action Pack subscriber, and I did not have
a prior version of Project. I downloaded and installed the Project Standard
2007 Trial, rebooted, and then installed the AP Project Professional 2007
with its product key, and just like Chinojosa stated, the install continued
as normal - no more requests for the Office folder.

Thanks Chinojosa and others!
