Installation

At my office, I was running Office 2002, but did not have
Powerpoint.

I asked our computer tech in the office and he gave me
Office 2003 Professional from another computer in the
office. I installed it in hopes that I would be able to
license it on my computer. This was not the case.

The computer tech went to the store and bought Office
Small Business edition 2003 - upgrade.

I tried installing the software but it responded with an
invalidProduct Key. I uninstalled Office 2003 and
reinstalled Office 2002. Still, it gave me an invalid
product key response.

How can I install the upgrade?

Hi, Troy,

Did you uninstall Office 2003 Professional using the Windows Control Panel?

Hm. You could try to clean up the Windows installer data by using these
steps:

1. On the Start menu, click Run.
2. In the Open box, type "Regedit" (without the quotation marks) and then
click OK.
3. Locate and expand the following key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\Installer\Products
4. Below the \Products key, select each 32-character {GUID} until you find
the one whose ProductName value matches your version of Office.
5. With the 32-character {GUID} for your Office product selected, export
this entry for backup.
6. Delete the entry from your computer. (You may want to restart your
computer, though I've been told by some posters that it wasn't required)
7. Then try running setup again.

Susan,

I followed the steps and tried setup again, both without
and with restarting the computer.

I enter the product key and it responds:
Invalid Product Key.

Thanks,
Troy Robinson

Did you remove the GUID for all Office products that have been "removed"
from your system?

Does your Windows Control Panel show any other Office components installed,
like Office XP, or a previous version?

Susan,

I removed all GUIDs. Control Panel shows no other office
products (however they are present in explorer).

The upgrade disck still gives me invalid product key.

Thanks.

When you say they are present in explorer, do you mean that there are still
folders containing Office program files on your C: drive?
