installed but can't access

I have a 10 month old HP and recently had trouble with
Symantec's System Works that caused me to recover my
system back to the when I bought the computer. I
reinstalled Office 97 but Word and Excel don't work. I
go directly to the application and skip the shortcut but
I get this message: "This application must be installed
to run. Please run setup from location where you
originally installed the application." Access won't work
and gives me this message:"Microsoft Access can't start
because there is no license for it on this machine."
PowerPoint works fine. All that from the same
installation. Can anyone help?
