installed office 2003, now nothing workds

I installed office 2003 last week. All was fine until I
tried to use my laptop without an internet connection.
Once the system boots (which takes far longer than it used
to), nothing operates. If I try to get an application to
open, it only opens part way and hangs. I cannot open any
files that previously were on my computer. I cannot open
control panel. I have to restart with my cable
connection to get it to work. When I do that, it works
fine.
