Have a Windows 2003 AD infrastructure where we distribute Office 2003 with
SP1, KB 870765, 885828, 892236 (integrated into the installation share) over
a GPO to Windows XP Professional SP2 clients. Outlook is used in Cached Mode
with an Exchange 2003 Server
The problem is that when a user starts Outlook for the first time, Outlook
starts, then begins synchronizing folders, then the Windows installer pops
up, starts to configure Office 2003, finishes, and the Windows Installer
starts again and again and again... The Windows installer still runs after 1
hour. The application eventlog is then full of MSI Installer messages 11728
with the description that Office 2003 has been configured sucessfully. The
only way to stop this process is to shutdown Outlook with the task manager,
the the Windows Installer stops as well. When Outlook is resrarted, the hole
process runs again.
The only way to make Outlook work is to
- Put the user in the local administrator group
- set the Windows installer service from "manual" to "disabled"
- stop the process "msiexec.exe"
- Start Outlook. Outlook the tries to start the installer service without
success many times, but finally runs and finish synchronizing the folders.
Then we can put the installer service back from "disabled" to "manual",
remove the user from the local administrator group, reboot the machine.
Outlook then runs fine without invoking the installer service.
- Any ideas how to solve this problem?
- Any advice how to get out why the installer service is started by Outlook
many times?
Thank you all in advance for any help
