Installing EPM

We are a small shop and we're trying to get a handle on what it will take to
install MS Project Server 2003: about 12 managers, and 40 total resources.
Should we review the MS documentation on "Single Computer" or "Small-size"
implementations?

Installing the software is about 5% or less of the work needed to get a
successful EPM implementation up and running. If all you do is install a
vanilla version and throw that at the troops you will get little or no extra
productivity and possibly dis-satisfaction with the system.

For example I always like to set an end goal that 80% of weekly reporting
should be automated. So what weekly reporting do you do? What weekly
reporting should you do? What information does this reporting require? How
will you customise Project to capture and store that information?

There are many more examples. EPM is a specialty system and it really does
pay to get an experienced implementer on board. See the project.server news
group for more ideas and people who implement Project Server.

Having said all that, if you want to install your own prototype do so on a
single server, but recognise that this is a prototype.
