installing Japanese Word 8.0 (office97) on Windows XP Pro (German.

When I try to install Office 97 (Japanese) on Windows XP pro (US), I get the
message that This version of Word (8.0) needs an Asean Enabled operating
system.
I have installed the appropriate add on in XP and changed the regional
settings to Japanese,.
Exel and Access are working fine, but Word will not start up
