Installing MS Office 2000 Pro on new (different) machine

M

Mike Sommers

I have replaced my old Pentium III(W98) machine with a new Dell
running XP Pro. I am copying things from my old machine as fast as I
can before it dies completely.

On this older machine I have a fully licensed/registered version of MS
Office 2000 Pro. I have installed it on my new machine using the
original installation CDs, re-registered (during installation),
applied all updates and patches, and it appears to be running great.

Questions: Will I run into a license/registration problem after 50
uses on the new machine? Is it simply a matter of Un-installing it
from my old machine? What if my old machine craps out before I can
get to the uninstall?

Anybody have good answers to these questions?

Thanks for reading,

Mike

Was it one of the later versions that required activation? If not, why
should you?

Office 2000 SR-1 does require activation.

Mine doesn't even Office XP never needed activated.
Ron

Then it was either OEM - or you're a pirate.
Came with the computer. However to reiterate Office 2000 never needed to be
activated as I have installed it on my old computer many times, as I
frequently format and re install the operating system software, Windows 98,
again legal. I also have Office 2003 as a 30 day trial but since
installing it I have had frequent crashing and freezing of my main computer
so it is going to be uninstalled. In fact I think I will just run the
restore cd and go back to the factory settings and install Office 2000
instead of Office XP or Office 2003 as they are just resource hogs.

Just because I send people (or did) to sites where they can get serial
numbers for their software does not mean that I have pirated software. All
the software on my 3 computers has been legally obtained and/or supplied
with the computers.

As Milly said Office 2000 with SR-1 included /did/ require activation.

Re-read my post. Office 2000 SR-1 was sold at retail after SR-1 came out.
This version, and all versions thereafter for all Office Suites, require
activation. Office 2000 without SR-1 included did not require activation.

Thanks to all who replied. Looks like I'm in good shape since I have the
version prior to SR-1.

Thanks again.
