installing office 2003 professional

I have a new pc running xp media edition. when I try to install office 2003
professional it errors saying i need an xp disk. any ideas?

will work with my os?

The upgrade version of a product type always requires that an earlier
version of the product type is either installed already, or in the form of
genuine installation media that can be verified..

OK.. so an upgrade version of MS Office requires that an earlier version of
Office is available.. Windows XP Media Center is NOT Office.. it is an
operating system..

MS Office 2003 Upgrade does NOT upgrade the operating system.. it upgrades
your present installation of Office, which you eminently don't have.. of
course, if you had a friend with an earlier genuine Office CD!!!!

It's not an upgrade of your operating system, it's an upgrade of your Office
software. Two completely different critters. Windows XP will run all
versions back to Office 97 - and maybe even older but I wouldn't want to try
using anything that old.

What you seem to have needs a full version of Office to start with. It's not
asking you for a Windows CD, it wants an Office CD.

I did - and I've had an insane week. Filling in for my coworker has been
eye-opening, to say the least. The funny thing is that I've never met a
bunch of people who use computers daily and know so little about them. And
even tho I've told them about these newsgroups, they still are amazed when
they ask me a question and I can find the answer in moments. ;-)
