I have a new pc running xp media edition. when I try to install office 2003

machine. If you have a microsoft office cd insert it now

Office software. Two completely different critters. Windows XP will run
all versions back to Office 97 - and maybe even older but I wouldn't want
to try using anything that old.
What you seem to have needs a full version of Office to start with. It's
not asking you for a Windows CD, it wants an Office CD.
