Installing Office XP Standard 2002

Sharon

I tried to install this upgrade but get error 1608 "setup
failed to locate a valid qualifying product". I have
Office 92 Small Business Edition installed. I followed
the instructions for the fix on the support website but
it does not help. It tell me if it doesnt work to buy
the full version. This does not seem fair if they are
saying that I have a qualifying version but because their
new upgrade automatically deletes the old version and
won't recognize I have a "qualifying version" I have to
buy the new version. I can't take the software back to
get the full version because Office Depot will only
exchange it for the same program. I am beginning to
think that MS did this on purpose so they could make more
money. Can anyone out there help me? Thanks - Sharon

I will be assuming you mean Off. 97 for this.

If your new Office XP does not recognize the old Office
installed on the PC, locate your Off. 97 CD. During
installation right after the dialogue box requesting your
Product ID, Switch CD's then continue until Setup asks
for your XP Disk again.

In some rare instances, it may be necessary to uninstall
the old version first.

If neither of these work out for you, you could unhide
your hidden files, copy both CD's to (separate) folders
on your desktop, then run the XP setup from the folder in
which you created it... When it sks for the path of the
original Office, browse to the folder where you create
Off. 97 Setup CD.

If all else fails, you can call MS for support. Just
have your ORIGINAL Office CD's nearby as important
information may be needed from them.

Hope this helps
