Installing upgrade software on a new system

Lee

I have windows office 97, but it is installed on my old
computer. I just purchased a new system and a copy of
microsoft office xp standard upgrade. I have never
installed the old office on my new system and I am afraid
to open the new software for fear it won't work. The new
system has MS works on it, will that do. Thanks Lee

You do not need to install Office 97 on your new system; when you begin the
installation of Office XP, simply have the Office 97 cd's available. When
Office XP tells you that it cannot find a qualifying product on your system,
insert the Office 97 cd into the drive and point the installer to that
drive. When XP finds the appropriate 97 files on the cd, just reinsert the
XP installation cd and proceed.

Hi Lee,

If you have the Office 97 CD you don't need to install
it to install an Office XP Upgrade Edition. You'll need
to have the CD available when prompted.
