iPhoto 8.1 breaks Entourage 2008

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard)
Processor: Intel
Email Client: imap

iPhoto 8.1 can no longer successfully email photos to Entourage 2008. It worked just fine with iPhoto 8.0.4, but no longer works with iPhoto 8.1.

The steps to reproduce this problem are as follows:
1. Change iPhoto's preferences to use Entourage as your email client.
2. Choose a photo.
3. Click on the "Email" button.

You will get an error message. You are not able to email a photo through Entourage this way anymore. You have to do it manually.

This was tested on Mac OS X 10.6 and Entourage 2008 v12.2.0

Hi Scotty,

It still works fine for me; the only difference being that I use Entourage
2008 Web Services Edition, but that should not really make a big difference
for the mechanism that is involved here. Is Entourage 2008 where it is
supposed to be on your hard disk, inside the Microsoft Office 2008 folder in
the Applications folder, or have you moved it at some point?

I would also try to find out if this problem is not caused by iPhoto itself.
It might be a good idea to post on the Apple discussion boards as well, just
to get some additional input.

Are you on 10.6? This problem looks like a Mac OS X 10.6 / Entourage 2008 / iPhoto 8.1 problem.

Yes, I'm sure that the problem is caused by iPhoto, but Microsoft has the ability to get Apple's attention on this bug... or make changes on their end to fix the issue in Entourage.

The error message that comes up is one from the Finder, which states:

Microsoft Entourage got an error. Can't get content of window " ".

This worked just fine under Snow Leopard and iPhoto 8.0.4... but breaks under Snow Leopard and iPhoto 8.1.

Sorry, clarification on this error: THIS BUG HAPPENS IF YOU UNCHECK THE "Titles" checkbox that appears in iPhoto after you click on the email button. This actually happened in iPhoto 8.0.4 as well. So THAT'S the bug. Sorry for the confusion here!

Hi Scotty,

yes, I'm using Mac OS X 10.6. And I can confirm that if the Titles checkbox
is unchecked, the error shows up. Thank you for giving the additional
details that allowed me to reproduce this bug.

Do you remember by any chance if this happened with earlier versions of Mac
OS X or Microsoft Office? And could you pass this on to Apple by sending
them feedback (with the detailed description of how to reproduce the bug)? I
will inform Microsoft of this, and we'll hopefully have this fixed in the
near future by one of the companies. My guess is that the script Apple uses
to send the iPhoto to Entourage uses an invalid command that is not
recognised by Entourage.

I can confirm that this works as expected in OS X 10.5.8, iPhoto 8.1, and
Entourage 2004, if that information is of any use, with our without the
Titles box checked.

Hi Ed,

thanks for the additional information. I'll make sure the testers at
Microsoft get this.
