I recently purchased a laptop with Windows XP Home Edition
and was wondering if it would be possible to install and
run Office 97 on the laptop.

Yes, provided it is a full retail version and, if an upgrade, you have the
QP.

Not correct to say "Yes, provided it is a full retail version". I have Installed Dells OEM versions (Office 97 small Business Edition) on about 500 non DELL PCs and they all work very nicely indeed. I can send ISO (of CD) to whoever wants it!!

I use non Microsoft products wherever possible which requires no activation.

I use Netscape 7.2 as my default browser which has everything I need for my work.

I believe in good Financial Management!! I do not believe in enriching rich jerks!

Yes. You should install Office 97 and ALL the updates from the MS
website before installing Service Pack 2 or you could run into
problems. You can google prior posts here and in the Windows XP group
for details.
