Is MyFileSharing server on?

I have a small file sharing program on my pc. I also have a website with
comcast with a link to MyFileSharing server.

I only share files once or twice a week and it seems I always forget to turn
it on. Of course when I don't turn it on they get an error page.

Is there a way to test if MyFileSharing server is on?
if MyFileSharing server is on then
go to MyFileSharing server
else
go to page2.htm

Something to play with
-Create 2 images to show status, maybe red for offline and
green for online
--Online.gif will be on the Sharing server
--Offline.gif will be on your comcast server.

-On your link page, create a single celled table, sized the
same as your images
--use CSS to apply a background image to the table, use
offline.gif as the source
--for the cell contents, insert the picture and use the the
url for online.gif

Results-
Offline.gif will always be rendered on the webpage, as the
background for the cell
IF online.gif is available, it will rendered on the webpage,
over the offline.gif image

At least in theory...
