Is Resource Max Units project specific in MSP Server 2003 environm

Hi:
I'm trying to create a report capturing the # of Resources assigned to a
project translated into the # of FTEs assigned to a project. I assumed until
recently that you could go into the Resource Sheet for a project and set Max
Units for an enterprise resource which had been assigned to that project, and
that it would only affect the Max Units of the resource on that specific
project. (I'm talking MSPServer 2003 environment). I assumed that an
enterprise resource could be assigned to various projects at various
different Max Units. Is that not true? Or is Max Units of an enterprise
resource only an attribute of that resource in the enterprise resource pool
with NO Project Specificity? Where can I get more information on this
subject? Thanks in advance for any information on this subject?

David,

That is not true! Max Units of an enterprise resource is only an attribute
of that resource in the enterprise resource pool
with NO Project Specificity! ;-(

Thanks Gerard. I'm guessing you are correct, but if so I have some related
questions:
1. how do you know what Max Units a resource is available on a project? If
a resource is assigned 50% to 2 projects, is there no way to record that in
MSP? I assume that also means that Work Availability, Remaining Availability
and % Allocation in the time-phased portion of the Resource Usage view of a
project is NOT project specific at the Resource roll-up level. It's captures
totals from other projects that resource is assigned to as well?
2. Where is this type of information documented -- what is project specific
and what isn't with regard to resources? It goes against user expectations.
One would expect that when you open a schedule and go to Resource Usage, view
you would see Resource usage for that schedule only. Same with Resource
Sheet view.

Thanks again for any insight into this problem.

Resource assignments (with %) are done at the task level, not at the project
level.

Yes, that's correct

If you are sharing resources within several projects, the Resource Usage
view shows the resource data for all the projects.
Same with Resource
Sheet view.

You are welcome !

Thanks much Gerard. Do you have any suggestions for good documentation on
this subject?
