Is there a way to remove words from spellchecker "dictionary"?

I am using Microsoft Office Word 2003 for Students and Teachers. I would
like to delete less commonly accepted spellings for certain words from my
spellchecker "dictionary".

Is there a simple way to do this? Is there any harm in doing this?

You can't actually remove words from Word's built-in lexicon, but you can
create an "exclude" dictionary that accomplishes the same thing. See
