Large file sizes

Am I doing something wrong in publisher or is there a problem with my
program? I am new to Publisher and when saving a Publisher document I
am stuck with large file sizes. Example: A 4 page document which
includes 12 jpgs which each of these average 100 kbs., this file is
saving at 100MBS!!! Is there anything that can be done to bring this
file size down to a normal working size?
