I saw one before but I can't find it now. I am looking for the layout that
has a notes section off to the side of the each of the slides.

Do you mean a caption area for an image or the Notes pane? I've never seen
the Notes pane anywhere but on the bottom, but you could create a slide with
a text box on the slide. In PowerPoint 2007, you can also create your own
layouts.

You'll want to send your PPT to Word. File > Send to > Microsoft Office Word.

Do you mean on the screen or for handouts? For handouts, go to the File
menu and choose Print. For "Print what," choose Handouts, and choose 3
slides per page.
