Leaflets in Publisher

David Ogden

Hello

I've created 5 leaflets using Publisher. The majority contain pictures that
have been inserted as JPEG files.

When I save the files, the file sizes are enormous. They range between
80Megabytes and 110Megabytes. I cannot work out what is causing the increase
in file size.

Any tips on reducing the file size are greatly appreciated.

Thanks

David

Thanks Mary, but what file format do you suggest I use to insert pictures
into Publisher? It seems there is only .BMP format left?

Can you suggest?

Thanks

Whatever file format you use when you insert the picture, it will always
come out at the same size as an uncompressed BMP file.

The only way to get smaller Publisher files without decreasing the quality
of the image is to upgrade to Publisher 2002 or 2003.

Are you reducing the size of the image when you insert it into Publisher? Might try
to resample the pictures in a paint program. Is there a reason you need to reduce the
file size? Can you print okay?

I was wanting to place the leaflets on an internal intranet site. There is
no way I am able to do this when the file sizes are reaching 100Mb.

Printing is not a problem - just takes a bit longer than normal.

The picture files I am inserting are only between 20Kbytes and 65Kbytes. I
can't reduce them any further.

Do you have a capture program? I can do a screen print on a 630 kb and reduce it to
31 kb. This is with MS Paint. SnagIt reduces it to 60 kb as a jpg extension, smaller
yet with gif (23 kb) The resolution isn't bad.

However, reducing the filesize with JPEG or GIF compression is pointless in
this scenario - as Publisher will re-expand to its uncompressed BMP
filesize.

What version Publisher? Select all, right-click, save as picture, there are
resolution options..
