Let Task duration change by changing Task finish date

R

Robin

Hi,

Is there a way to let the duration of a task automatically change when you
change the task finshish date.

E.g. Task 1 starts on Mon 1st and finishes on the Fri 12th = 10 days
duration. I then chnage the end date to the Fri 19th. By default project puts
a constraint on the end date, keeps the duration at 10 days and moves the
start date to Mon 8th. I would rather it kept Mon 1st and extended the task
to 15 days duration.

Thanks for your time

You should be changing the duration. Generally, keying a date into a task
for Project is not the way to do it. It is breaking a commandment, almost as
bad as "Thou shall not steal"

It''s software; it''s not allowed to win.

It sound as if you're putting the cart before the horse. Reiterating Jim's
post, your job is to estimate duration and discover dependencies while
Project's job is to predict the earliest dates tasks will be able to start
and from that compute the dates they will finish. You should let Project do
its job.
