I was looking at a forum yesterday which is specifically (but not only) for
people who are interested in the conservation of ancient buildings (quite
interesting actually). Anyway on this forum someone asked if anyone knew of
a method of renovating their garden as they want to build a small wall around
a new pond.
Oh my god. There were so many answers regarding the fact that this wasn’t
“specifically†about their favourite topic and wasn’t it terrible that anyone
would dare to ask such a question on “their†site. Etc, etc.
Someone did offer some construction tips and asked a few questions back
regarding the sub-soil of the new forum user’s new walls. It was pointed out
by others that their site risked being sued if the new wall fell over and
killed someone.
It was commented on that
A] The subsoil structure of the new walls location wasn’t known so it would
be impossible to give an accurate answer – but, as the answer that “wasâ€
given was very general, the basics would hold-up in virtually any subsoil.
B] Anyone offering advice – however loosely – should not be berated for
doing so. Even if this wasn’t really the best place for it.
C] As the specifics of the proposed new walls weren’t given (height, length,
etc) in the original question it would not be possible to either given a
specific answer but a general one would be fine.
At least 5 other people did raise their head above the parapet with posts
basically saying that even though the site was meant to be about one topic
this wasn’t exclusive, and if someone looking for any other form of advice
(or even just a chat) wanted to post that was their option. It would be
unlikely that anyone would answer this impertinent use of the site but – hey,
if they did what’s the harm.
Please re-read my post and then compare it with points A,B and C above.
A]
Because we don't know the legal jurisdiction of the OPs contract.
If we were lawyers we'd probably want a peek at the contract before
offering advice.
B]
This isn't the place to answer such questions.
Oh and as for
and of course by answering such questions we're taking the food out of the
mouth of lawyers, who are paid to offer this kind of advice,
______
My wife "is" a lawyer and you couldn't get a slice of cake out of her hand
if you tried <

and she gets paid far too much as it is and still won't
buy me a new car every month.
