levelling II

i have 71 sub projects. all inserted into a master file. i am finding that
one of the tasks in each sub project blows out instead of being 150mins says
duration at 1515mins. this then makes this resource overallocated by 500-600%
on one day. i level minute to minute & std. and cant get this to change. any
clues?

Hi Greg,

Never seen this, leveling doesn't change work on a task
What is the task type of this task?
It isn't dynamically linked (via Paste Special) to start and finish dates is
it?
(cause Hammock tasks shouldn't carry resources)
Isn't it a summary task?
Summary tasks shouldn't carry resources either...

the production facility i am at has about 20 new 'projects' each week, all
sharing one resource pool, with all projects inserted. levelliing was changing
the duration of tasks, thus making any room for other tasks of the same
resource difficult. what i eventually found yesterday was interesting. say
you have a task of cutting the metal 2hrs work. i had this originally as a
fixed duration, but i should have had them as fixed work. this lets them
remain as a set time task and can be levelled. it is an interesting timeline
i am trying to make succeed. as every week new 'projects' will come into ms
project and must be levelled separate from the existing jobs(i am trying to
use a priority of 1000 to sort these apart). and existing jobs tracked for
completion.

Hi,

"Leveling was changing the duration of the tasks"
Are you sure this was leveling and not a change in work or units?
Leveling basicly shifts tasks as they are, doesn't change work, units nor
duration (be it that when the task is split the time between start and
finish changes)
