Limited user accounts

Jake

I have heard that using a limited account for everyday activities (using the
internet, emailing etc, ) on your computer, is better than using the
administrator account. Can anyone tell me in more detail what the security
advantages of this are?

Hello Jake,

Thanks for your posting here.

Based on my knowledge, it is more security to use Limited account than
Administrator account.

The limited account is intended for someone who should be prohibited from
changing most computer settings and deleting important files. A user with a
limited account:

o Cannot install software or hardware, but can access programs that have
already been installed on the computer.
o Can change his or her account picture and can also create, change, or
delete his or her password.
o Cannot change his or her account name or account type. A user with a
computer administrator account must make these kinds of changes.

When you log on the computer with administrator permission, many email and
Web-based attacks take advantage of this by hijacking the security context
of the logged-in user. It's far safer to assign most users the Limited
account type.

Hope this helps! If you need further help or have other concerns, just post
back to let me know. Thanks and have a nice day!

Thanks & Regards
