Linked Objects

I am confused about how objects are linked in PowerPoint. I have inserted
several linked objects into a presentation that will display on a plasma in
the main part of my shop. When the linked objects are updated such as word
documents or PDF files I would like it to automatically change within the
powerpoint with out user interface. Is this possible and if so how often will
it update the powerpoint?

Is there a simple way to do this?

Without special add-ins or other code, OLE links (like links to Excel / Word
information) will only update when the presentation opens.

Links to files that open when clicked are another matter; when you launch the
file (such as one of your PDFs) the file opens. If it's been updated since the
last time it opened, you see it updated.

Doing what I orginally inquired about. Having a linked object automatically
update inside a slide while a slide show is running. Such as using an add-in
for Powerpoint 2003.
