A couple of things to check:
Is your calculation mode set to automatic? (See Tools > Options,
Calculation tab).
Have you entered in dates for either the start or finish, creating a
constraint? If the task is constrained you should see a constraint
indicator in the indicator column. Remove the constraint by double
clicking the task to show the Task Information dialog box, click the
Advanced tab, and set the constraint type back to As Soon As Possible.
Have you entered in an Actual Start date? View the tracking table.
Task with an Actual Start date entered will no longer move, either
earlier or later.
