Linking our access database with an external program

Our company uses a software package to generate and house the
technical data that exists for each of our clients. Each client's
specific information is accessed via a drop down list whereby the
client name is identified or by a client unique ID code which can
simply be entered. Once the information above is either selected or
entered a typical OK button or the enter key will take you to the
information you need.

I have developed an operations database that houses workflow data for
the same clients. I would like to be able to link the two applications
such that any of my employees working through the forms I have built
for our operations database can quickly access the technical data in
the external application with just the click of a button.

I imagine some sort of macro that would carry out the pasting of the
client unique ID code from my operations database into the opening
field of the external technical program followed by auto-clicking the
OK button in the technical program would do the trick. However, I have
no idea if this is feasible.

I investigated the fields of 'software and data integration' on the
net but it seems overly complex for what I am attempting. Isn't there
some small program I might be able to use to link these two
applications?
