Linking tasks

Hi. I am wondering if someone can help me with a problem with circular
relationships.

I have one module, Appliancizing & integrating with GUI. Person #1 working
on this group of tasks. I have a separate module, GUI work, person #2
working on all of this serially. I need to be able to link the integration
of the Appliancing with Gui work with a line item in the GUI section. It
will not allow me to link, because it would "create a circular relationship".
Well, I cannot finish the Appliancing with integration with GUI. Is there a
way to fix this?

Thank you!!!

Hi kms75,

Circular references are usually created by linking summary tasks and then
trying to link the subtasks in such a way that the predecessor/successor
relationships are in conflict. See FAQ #48 "Summary Task Linking" at:

http://project.mvps.org/faqs.htm

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

A circular relationship is also called a loop. This is when a sequance of
task are logically tied then ties back into itself. This means it can not do
what MS Projects calls calucalue. It's also called a forward and reverse
pass. I'll add a sample below to help. Also do not make logic ties from
summary task to anything in the schedule.
Task 1 FS-0 Task 2
*-----------* -----> *------------* If you tie the end of a logic chain
bask to itself you put in a loop. If you were to tie Task 2 back to Task 1
this is a loop.
Hope this helps.
