Links in 'my Documents' folder do not work

Hi,
when i click on a file icon in 'my docs' i have to wait upto 3 minutes
before the doc opens.
If i click out of the window i get 'not responding' and if leave it, it
eventually opens the file.

When i open the office program (word, excel, access or ppt) and then open
file from the file menu (or icon) the file opens as usual.

done a lot of work recently not sure if rolling back to earlier version
appropriate - not actually sure when it started hanging, so would have to go
back 2 - 3 months (thats a lot of updates to reinstall)

hope someone can help put me straight

Go to Control Panel, Folder Options, File Types, scroll down to and
select (DOC for Word files) or XLS (for Excel files), click Advanced,
select Open entry, click the edit Button.
Now uncheck "Use DDE" and then put your cursor in the Application box,
arrow all the way to the right and put in a space and then "%1" (include
the quote marks), IF there is /dde remove it. Then OK your way out.
Things should work quickly again.

Thanks for that. It seems to work, although don't understand why (dde was in
word line)
I will restart and see if it stays ok over nexk week.

It will "stay OK" till you have another program that "breaks" or
redirects DDE. And then you will need to "fix" it again.
