Links stopped working

Hi, all!

Several months ago I created my webpage with Publisher 2000 -
www.members.shaw.ca/tamgarboxers

I was so proud of it!!! still am, in fact. Anyway - the other day, I was
referring someone to my
http://www.members.shaw.ca/tamgarboxers/Holtering_Health_Links.html page and
was telling them to click on the links in the middle of the page
(information on cardiomyopathy in Boxers) - and the links weren't working!
They'd worked previously....

So - I went back, opened up my original document, checked to see that the
links were still there...they are....saved as web page...and uploaded it
again to the site.... The links still don't work!

Any suggestions?

PS - David, I sent you an e'mail to your MVP address - because I couldn't
find the newsgroup - but, after much more searching, eventually found the
newsgroup!

Thanks a bunch everyone and anyone who can help!

Tammy,

One probable reason the links aren't working is because you have converted
the text to a GIF image. In fact all of your home page is one large image,
no text frames at all, and many of the other pages I quickly looked at have
converted text. This generally happens when you overlap different page
elements...overlap a jpg image and a text frame, and they will be combined,
and you will have one large gif image. Links won't work, text looks bad, and
higher quality images are reduced to low quality...

I am not sure what you are doing incorrectly design wise, but to tell if the
text on any page at your site has been converted, try to select it by left
clicking and dragging across the text...and if you can't, then try right
clicking, and if you get the option to save as a picture, then you know that
part has been converted to an image, and you will need to redo that section.
Perhaps run the Design Checker under Tools. I think I remember it will point
out overlapping elements.

That's really strange...because usually when I do that - I get a warning
dialog box that says something to the effect that text overlaps links and
therefore won't work. However, I will try what you suggest - and work from
there... Thanks a bunch for answering on Christmas Eve!

Hi, David!

Ok - I just went through and revamped my website, and corrected those
problems. However, when I saved as webpage, and then uploaded....the links
in my table STILL weren't working.... Nothing was touching my table....so
I've now taken all of the text out of my table and put them in text boxes.
I'll try it now since I've 'jerry rigged' my page...see if it will let this
work this time....

Looks like you fixed your linking problem, and cleaned up the overlapping
elements issues. Links were working this morning, and text was text...looks
good. ;-)

I know....but what I meant to say (what I thought I said) was that it didn't
give me that warning that time....which is why I couldn't figure out why it
wasn't working.... :)
