Are you getting this error: Bootstrp
caused an error in KRNL386.exe".
Here is Brian's solution
To resolve this problem, remove the "bootstrp" entry from the Compatibility
section of your Win.ini file. To do this, follow these steps:
1.. Click the Start menu, and then click Run.
2.. In the Run box, type win.ini, and then click OK.
3.. Click Find on the Search menu. In the Find What box, type
[Compatibility], and then click Find Next. Click Cancel to dismiss the Find
dialog box.
4.. Look for a line in the [Compatibility] section that contains the
following text

BOOTSTRP=

and type a semicolon (;) in front of this line.
5.. Click Save on the File menu. Click Exit on the File menu.
6.. Restart Microsoft Windows and run the Microsoft Publisher 2.0 Setup
program

Perhaps it is time you looked for a second hand copy of Publisher 97.

Why would they do that? Was your problem that you couldn't actually load
the software because you didn't have a floppy drive to insert the Publisher
2.0 disks?

--No, I have the original ms publisher that I purchased
and I have the disks. When I go to install in my new
laptop, the program stalls out and won't load? I don't
know why. I would like to load and then purchase the
upgrade instead of buying the entire program again.

You don't need to have the ver. 2.0 loaded to install and upgrade. You just
have to insert disk 1 of ver. 2.0 when it goes to look for the previous
version. You just point the install to the floppy and you are on your way.

In that case, having a CD version would not help.
What do you mean by "stalls out and won't load"?
