Locked Documents

phil

I recently finished typinig a paper for a class. I saved it under save as in my documents, and when I went to make some revisions, I found that I could not do anything. The message at the bottom of the screen was saying "modification could not be made because document is locked." However, I did not lock it, and furthermore, every time I start up the Word program, to try to begin a new paper, I can't even type the first letter. Every time the same message appears, so basically I have no ability to use Word at all.

What should I do? How can I get back into the program, and how do I make sure the documents aren't "locked" and prevent his from happening in the future.

Chances are good that you need to activate your copy of Word. Check under
the Help menu. If there is a command there about "Activate" try it. If you
have a version that doesn't require activation there won't be such a
command. If you have already activated, it will tell you that.
