Jerry,
Let's say you have a project whose schedule spans one year. For LOE
tasks there might be a tendency to simply show a single task spanning
the whole year and take credit as time passes (i.e. complete to status
date). However, it is often better for tracking/replanning purposes to
break LOE tasks into time phased groups. For example, the above LOE
might be shown as 4 tasks spanning the 4 quarters of the year. For one
thing, you may well find out that midway through the 2nd quarter the
actual hours being spent on the LOE task is quite different than what
was "loaded" in the beginning. With the LOE broken into smaller pieces,
it is a lot easier to replan than to re-configure one large task that is
in progress.
