'Look Up' facility

The 'Look Up' facility is wonderful.... particularly for me as I do a great
deal of database cleansing and it is a great resource and saves me lots of
leg work on research. However, based in the UK and mainly dealing with UK
companies and it is a bit frustrating that I cannot search more sites that
are UK relevant. Could someone give me an idea about how to got about
getting more please? The message I get in the update box is "no advertised
services are currently avaiable".
Thank you.

I use it in Excel and Word. If I have a company or a person that I want
information on, I highlight the typed details, right click and the "Look up"
option comes up. Another right click and then the information on various
websites where the details of the company or person might be found. This
infomrration appears in a pane on the right hand side. I want biographies
and financial information related to British companies.

It is called "Research"(as noted in the pane title). Please open Help,
and type in "Research Options" for information about how to change and
add research services.

Thank you Bob I. I shall use the correct terminology in the future. I tried
the Help but it didnt seem to explain how to do what I wanted - but I will
try again.

Hi Ferdy,

This article explains a little about the background
of the Research library.
http://microsoft.com/office/editions/prodinfo/technologies/research.mspx

Basically, MS provides a packaged library with Office 2003
and 3rd party suppliers can offer additional resources
through, among other ways http://office.microsoft.com/marketplace
(UK business research page at

Thanks for the additional details - I thought you were referring to
the Research task pane. :)

Typically the services available in the Research task pane are
provided by third parties and I'm sure many of them will charge a fee
to utilize their service such as a those found on Office Marketplace.
(There should be a link at the bottom of the Research task pane.)

Otherwise, if you click "Research Options" at the bottom of the task
pane do you see a list of available services? I see "MSN Search UK"
available but I'm not sure if that is what you are looking for or if
you are looking for other services as well.

Other than the "Update" option and Office Marketplace I'm not aware of
any other means of adding additional services. It does look like the
list of available services has increased a little in the last six
months so it may be a matter of time before more services are added.

Please post all follow-up questions to the newsgroup. Requests for
assistance by email can not be acknowledged.

Thank you Bob and thank you Beth. I have navigated myself around as you have
described Beth, and you are right that the MSN UK doesnt really get to what I
want. With great respect to our American cousins - the available services do
tend to be a bit USA-centric & I have to trawl through reams of US info to
get to what I want and that is after I have pared the available services down
to the bare minimum. I really dont mind paying afor additional services as I
own a business providing secretarial resources and this research facility
really helps me, but I want to get at UK financial info, company history etc.
Anyway, I shall do investigations on Bob's suggestions as well . You're
very generous with your assistance. Thank you.
