lookup problems

i have a master file with data sorted by column 1 - that
data is an event tag i.e 1,2,2,2a,3,3,3,3 etc. how can i
use a lookup function to show all events sorted by tag on
differing sheets - i have been doing this manually with
filters but would like to automate it a little

Spreadsheet arrives like this:-
event item1 item2 etc
1 a b
1 a b
1a a c
2 b a
2 b a
2 a c
3 etc
i need all of the occurrences of events filtered into
separate worksheets - i have been doing it with filters
but as the spreadsheet is large i was trying to find a
way of doing it automatically
