Losing email from Inbox

Geoff

Hi, I have been helping an elderly farmer to use his new laptop. I
don't know whether he has altered a setting but his email once opened
disappears. His laptop has a trial version of Office Small Business
installed and we did try to subscribe but as he has a dial-up
connection the download would have taken a few days or so! The laptop
takes an age to open a Word document and I think that something is
blocking use.

I cant find any settings that would result in his email being removed
from his inbox. I wil probably assist him to buy a boxed version of
Office and unistall the trial version. Or perhaps I could try a repair
first, but then he doesn't have the disks. The laptop is a Sony Viao.

I would appreciate any help to overcome this problem as at present he
can't read his email without losing it!

Geoff,

I have a similar problem that just started today. I came home this
afternoon and when I opened my inbox, all my previously opened e-mails were
GONE! I don't know what happened, I left for work this morning and
everything was fine. Came home and there was nothing. I am receiving
e-mails and these are not disappearing when I open them up as is the issue
with your application, but I would like to know where my previously opened
e-mails went from my inbox.

I did try and restart the computer when this happened, logging off and then
turning it back on. Yet when it restarted, the screen I had a "dirty file"
and that it was copying it to somewhere in the computer, I didn't write down
what it said. The computer spent another 20 minutes to go through this
process, and when Outlook opened again, I saw that I had received some new
e-mails but my old ones were still gone. Does anyone have any idea what
happaned here? The old e-mails in my Outbox are fine, they are still there.
I did check the delete box but there are no extra e-mails there. I also
opened every other file to see if theye could have gone there, but nothing.

I could really use some help here.

Chuck,
Yes, Same with my friend. The emails in the Outbox are still there but
once an email in the inbox is opened it disappears. lets hope someone
with knowledge can help us tackle this one! I think I'll try a Repair
on Outlook as it would seem something has got corrupted.

This is usually the result of using the "Unread Messages" view instead of
the "Messages" view.

Thanks Brian, I think that you've solved this problem for us! I have
been using Outlook, happily, for years but never explored this option.
