lost file

I was creating a news letter in publisher 2000 and the
file was open while i was visiting an internet site, a
error report came up, i clicked dont send, then my
publisher file vanished. Are there any suggestions on
how to recover the lost file?

I have tried various search options in my computer
including *.~*, *.bak, *.tmp and searched for files saved
at the right time and date, I also tried restore system.

There's a file ending .dat.bak but when opened in
publisher it displays a list of what looks like
programming code.
Any helpful suggestions would be much appreciated.
I am in Windows XP.

The file vanished because it had not been saved, and the program was closed
by Windows without giving it a chance to save.
Publisher 2003 does not experience this problem anywhere near as much, as it
has AutoSave.

Anyway, find your temp folder (under Windows XP this will probably be
c:\Documents and Settings\<Profile Name>\Local Settings\Temp)
Look in there for pub*.tmp, and *.pub. Try opening these in Publisher.
If that doesn't work, and it will be too difficult to recreate it, you could
contact a data recovery expert. They will try and find fragments of data
lost on the hard drive (such as deleted temporary files). But it's pricey
and probably won't get your file back.

Use everything as a lesson. Learn from mistakes. The lesson here: Save
regularly.

Thanks for the suggestions. No luck unfortunately, so
it's back to the drawing board!
