Lost Format Painter in Outlook 2003

I have been everywhere, and the Format Painter toolbar which was there in
Outlook, is gone. I've checked and clicked everything I can find for 2 days.
Can anyone give me specific directions ? My version of Outlook, when I
click about MS Outlook, shows SP1.
My laptop is my only computer, and it is brand new, and uses WinXP.
I've put in this question to help at the upper right of the Outlook screen
in 10 different ways, and it simply doesn't have an answer to this question.
I've been through this in the past, and someone else fixed it, so I do not
know how to do it. I do have it in Word, and Word is my email editor, so why
does this item become so elusive ?
Thanks for any help.

Do you have a new message open when you are trying to find the format
painter? Is the message at full screen or less than full screen?

I have a new message I'm composing, or a forwarded, or any message, or no
message. I do have the full screen up, and if it is a smaller screen it is
only 1/8 inch smaller than a full screen... I seem to have many/most
toolbars showing in the toolbar, and can choose from the ones remaining, but
Format Painter is just not there to choose....
Thank you for any help !

On your formatting toolbar, do you see down chevrons? If you click on it,
does it show additional commands? If yes, drag the toolbar off of its
stationary position, and then drag the command to a more accessible area of
the toolbar.

Are you using the outlook editor or word editor?

Yes I see the chevrons, and it shows commands, but not Format Painter. Tried
to drag toolbar off of it's stationary position, lost it, then got it back.
There are two toolbars, one on each line, and neither takes up the whole
line. Where would a 'more accessible area of the toolbar' be ... Thank
you for help.

I'm not sure, how do I find out which I'm using? I did a Detect & Repair the
other day, and I think that's when I lost Format Painter. I believe I'm
using Word, tho' in the past, every once in a while it tells me it needs to
change to Outlook Editor. I don't know how to check. What can I do to find
out, and then to find the Format Painter again ? Thanks so much,
Marilyn

if the toolbars and menus are the same as used ion word, you are using word.
You can also look on the Actions, New Message using menu. You should have a
menu that says 'Microsoft outlook (message_format)' or 'Microsoft word
(message_format)' - which ever it says there you are using the opposite.

If it's not on the standard toolbar in word, look in View, toolbars,
customize for it and drag to the toolbar.

I solved it ! Went to the box at top of screen, put in Email Editor, and it
told me how to find what I was using for Email Editor. I clicked the box to
use Word as my email Editor, and that solved it. I didn't know how to check
for that until I searched around more. Thank you for your help.
