Hy

Following the abrupt switch off of my Lap top I cannot open any more a Visio
2000 drawing (the file .vsd is around 1.3MB)...
The error message I got while trying to open is:
" An error (100) occured during the action Open Save File"
" Visio cannot open the file because it is not a Visio file"

Do you know some tools that could help me recovering parts of this damage
visio file?
Thanks for your hep

Nice information :-(
But now how can I automatically generate a backup file while saving it ?
I know the exact process with Excel but not with visio...
- With Excel Command Save As then Tools menu then General Option then
Always create a backup
- With Visio ???

Thanks once more for your help

You might try looking around for files with "~" in their names.

Per example: I have a drawing named: "Drawing.vsd". While it is open, there
is also file called "~$$Drawing.~vsd" This file will go away when I close
Drawing.vsd. However, when your maching crashes, it is possible that
"~$$Drawing.~vsd" is still there.

A few years ago, I used something in Norton Utilities that kept versions of
files around. Every time I saved, I think it saved a separate version of all
my office documents. Uses up lots of disk space, but when I had a big crash,
there were so many old versions to choose from, it was cool! Plus, you can
clean out all of that stuff if you fill up your disk.

Whenever I work on big documents, I always save different versions every
hour or so - File 01, File 02, File 03, etc, because I simply don't trust
the computer.

Not always. I have this problem with my Visio 2000. I try open files in
Visio 2002 and Visio 2003. And sometimes Visio 2003 opened this files.

Under Tools\Options\Save, check the "Save Autorecover info..."
It should create a backup file every x minutes.
